A BEST CNG bus crashed into a road divider in Borivali East after the driver allegedly swerved to avoid a motorcyclist who suddenly entered its path near Daulat Nagar bus stop. The late-night incident caused no injuries, and the bus was later towed to the Magathane depot. Police have begun an inquiry, though no case has been registered so far.
According to the accident report, the motorcyclist abruptly moved into the bus's path from the left lane without any warning. In an effort to prevent a collision, the bus driver immediately turned the steering wheel to the right. The sudden manoeuvre caused the bus to strike the road divider, where it became lodged.
Following the incident, a towing vehicle was deployed to remove the stranded bus. After it was recovered from the divider, the vehicle was transported back to the Magathane depot. Authorities have not disclosed the extent of the damage sustained by the bus.
Officials confirmed that no passengers, members of the bus crew, or other road users suffered injuries in the incident. The absence of casualties prevented the accident from escalating into a more serious situation despite the impact.
Police officials stated that no case had been registered at Kasturba Marg Police Station at the time the report was prepared. A Police Sub-Inspector recorded the statements and details of the bus driver and the conductor and informed them that they would be contacted if their presence was required during the ongoing inquiry.
The incident has once again highlighted the risks posed by sudden and unpredictable movements by motorists in heavy urban traffic. While the timely action of the bus driver prevented a direct collision with the motorcyclist, the evasive manoeuvre resulted in the bus crashing into the divider, prompting an official police inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
